Local farm Yirri Grove will open its olive press this Easter for a workshop on how to make your own olive oil.
Yirri Grove owner Anne O’Neill said she started the workshop after receiving interest from people who had their own olive trees at home.
“A lot of people ask me how they can make their own olive oil,” she said.
“There are so many people in town with olive trees.
“It’s not viable to press 20, 50 or 100 kilos of olives at a time.”
Ms O’Niell said she needed 500 kilograms of olives to make running the press worthwhile.
She said the oil would only cost participants $1 per litre, to cover the cost of running the machine.
“Everybody pitches in and we divvy up the oil at the end,” she said.
The workshop will run on Easter Saturday and participants will take home a percentage of olive oil based on who many olives they contributed.
