Festival of the Wind Esperance editorial by Samara Clark

Regional areas host community events like no other.

Festival of the Wind 2017 presented by Act Belong Commit has been a mammoth undertaking from the entire Esperance community.

From the initial concept 18 months ago, to now having 22 tonne Cliffs sand sculptures, mural art and the Mandaboornap Puppet Project already livening up the foreshore.

The next few days are ready to explode in a flurry of excitement, it has been an amazing journey for all involved and especially for all of you attending

For 20 years the festival team have been delivering outstanding and original performances from a variety of art streams, and this year’s line-up has it all.

From Horizon Power Underground for the youth at the skatepark, including champion skateboarders, the return of the classic King of the Mountain fun run

A multitude of workshops for families are on at The Hub and plenty of live music from local buskers on the art trail all along the foreshore.

Your Festival program is your guide to adventure.

I encourage you to look through this gem and start planning your weekend to ensure you don’t miss any of the fun.

Here are a few of my favourites.

Jump on the free festival bus. With loops around town from 9am, this is the best way to access the Festival – no need for parking.

DJ Chris Pope will be mixing it at the skatepark with workshops whilst beatball and parkour are kicking it on the grass.

Head to The Hub for some fun in the circus challenge tent and learn to juggle or make your own surf wax whilst listening to tunes from Sounds at the Shell with live local music.

Memories of the Wind is a visual display of the history of the festival happening at Innerspace, Cannery Arts Centre.

The final of the Black Jack Beard Competition is on at at the Soundshell at 1pm on Saturday and the prizes are amazing.

Stage Combat workshops at Underground - learn how to fight like a movie star.

International kite artist Michael Alvares will be decorating the skies with an abundance of kites.

With an epic array of free events and activities for all ages, Festival of the Wind 2017 is set to be the most memorable festival yet.

So come down and celebrate this beautiful town we call home, and enjoy your festival. We have your weekend covered.
