Gibson defeated Ports at the weekend

On a day of milestones, Scott Wandel playing 250 games for Gibson and Tex Walker playing 150 for Ports, the weather was perfect for football.

In an even start to the game Ports opened the scoring with the first goal.

The game then became a show of alternate dominance with Gibson goaling, then Ports replying then Gibson again.

Gibson ended the quarter on top with a goal to Jordan Whiting from the 50m arc after the siren resulting with Gibson 2 goals up.

During the second quarter excellent defence from Gibson kept Ports to a single behind.

Gibson had their opportunities to score, but inaccurate kicking left them with 5 behinds and Ports closing to within 2 goals.

Although Gibson had the majority of the play, Ports defence were able to limit them to only 2 goals, one of them after the siren just like the first quarter.

In the third quarter, as the sun was going down Ports handled the slippery conditions better and finished with two goals added to their score.

Gibson had their opportunities to score, but inaccurate kicking left them with 5 behinds and Ports closing to within 2 goals.

The last quarter under lights showed some very hard play from both teams, with Gibson being able to score the first goal.

Scoring became very difficult with Ports dropping extra numbers back into Gibsons 50m arc, and after numerous entries into their 50, Gibson were only able to score again after a long bomb to the goal line.

Ports didn’t take this lying down and responded with two of their own goals, although by the end of the quarter Gibson had reclaimed the two goals and added a further 4 points.

The final score being 10 15 75 to Gibson and 6 4 40 to Ports.

Congratulations to Scott Wandel and Tex Walker on their milestones, who both played very well today.
