Bowls club celebrate new season

ESPERANCE Bowling Club celebrated the opening of the new pennants season with an event held on Saturday from 1pm that recognised the previous season’s winners and the annual Bowler of the Year.

Condingup, Scaddan and two Esperance teams were in attendance.

Club president Wal Rendell opened the afternoon’s proceedings with a one-minute silence for Scaddan/Norseman member Glen Smith or ‘Ganga’ who recently passed. Smith was one of the original members of the Norseman Bowling Club.

Mr Rendell said the announcement that the Goldfields Challenge would be played in Esperance this year was a positive one and would allow the local team more practice on their own ground.

Jayson Fiegert, former captain of Condingup Bowling Club, assisted Mr Rendell with the presentation of badges to members of the Condingup club who took out the season last year.

With points allocated throughout the year, Bowler of the Year was announced as Tom Ellison, who had accrued a total of 19 points.

The first game of the new season was played following the formal proceedings for the day.
