BEACH goers have been treated to a spectacular sight when whales came close to shore at Castletown Quays.
Three whales came to surfaced along the shore of Castletown Quays last Friday morning, delighting several onlookers who had come to experience the beauty of the giant marine mammals.
One local man, Brad Witt, had rushed to capture the scene and said the experience was something he would never forget.
"I watched the three whales 50 metres from shore waving at the crowd and photographed them for around 20 minutes," he said.
"People were all along the beach and dunes sitting back enjoying front row seats to the whales putting on a show.
"It was an awesome experience to witness."
Esperance resident Mark Brown said he was surprised the whales had come so close to shore, but was delighted they had.
"I've never seen whales in the wild before, so we were surprised that they were so close to town."
"We left after about 20 minutes as they [the whales] slowly went towards Bandy Creek Harbour, but they would of been there for at least an hour.
"They were just having a nice swim in the shallows."
