Focus put on mental health

Happy health: One life volunteer Natalia Scott is encouraging members of the public to attend Mental Health Week events.
AN array of events will be held in Esperance next week as part of Mental Health Week.
Bay of Isles Community Outreach, Esperance Ports Sea and Land and Western Australia Country Health Service have all contributed to organising the Mental Health Week program.
An art exhibition encompassing the message "What do you do when you're feeling blue"? will be open to the public at the Inner Space Gallery next week and at Esperance Community Arts from October 13.
The public are invited to take part in the March of Pride that will proceed from the bus terminal through town on October 8 at 10am.
A barbecue will be held at the Post Office Square at 11.30am.
A 'Stress Less - ways to reduce your stress in the workplace' workshop will be held at the Civic Centre on October 9 at 5.30pm.
Residents are asked to reserve a place for the workshop by calling 9071 0756.
Mental Health Week will conclude with the Ball of Hope at the Civic Centre on October 12.
Tickets for the ball are $25 and are available from Indulge Clothing Store with proceeds going towards supporting the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
One life volunteer Natalia Scott said it is important for people to attend these events to learn about what mental health is.
"Mental health is always thought of having such a negative connotation, it is hardly ever viewed in light of being positive," she said.
Ms Scott said some aspects of mental health week were a celebration of being mentally healthy, celebrating life, connecting with people and having a great time.
