Train derails in WA's Wheatbelt region

A recovery operation is underway in WA's Wheatbelt region after a cargo train derailed shedding its load of iron ore, 140 kilometres north of Esperance.

In a statement to the Esperance Express, Aurizon said there have been no injuries in the derailment which happened at 7pm on Monday, 17 kilometres north of Salmon Gums.

Aurizon will be working with the network owner Brookfield Rail on the recovery operation.

The derailment does not affect road users.

Esperance police were not required to attend the incident.
