The Esperance Indoor Sports Stadium has received the greenlight for the next stage of development after the Shire of Esperance received confirmation of funding from the state government.
Shire chief executive officer Matthew Scott said the budget for the project was around $7.2 million, with the state government committing $4.06m through Royalties for Regions.
The shire and stake holders provided a $2.46m towards the project with a further $723,000 from the Department of Sport and Recreation rounding out the budget.
“Confirmation of the funding has allowed us to request quotes to finalised construction designs,” he said.
“Once these are completed the plans will be able to go out for tender. “
Mr Scott said the shire hoped for construction to commence early next financial year and expected it to take up to twelve months.
“This is a positive community project that will greatly improve our indoor sporting facilities and will hopefully see makings of many future sporting stars in Esperance,” he said.
Shire president Victoria Brown said the new stadium was eagerly anticipated in the community.
“We have waited for a long time for this project to get the green light, and look forward to the day we can open the doors and everyone can play in a top quality facility,” she said.
“I look forward to seeing a regional event being held in Esperance using the new building. Who do you think will be first?”
