South East Runners take off cross country

Conditions were very warm for the South East Runners’ cross-country event at Helms Arboretum on Sunday morning.

Runners and walkers enjoyed the trail run before heading to breakfast at the Bird and Animal Park.

The most popular event was the 2km run, with eight competitors.

Joshua Maccan continued with his winning streak to take out first place.

He had a successful race in the Esperance Primary School 3km event held during the week, defending his title from 2016.

Second place went to another junior runner, Taj Tate, with Donna Maccan finishing in third place.

Chris Cassam was the only taker, and therefore the winner, in the 2km walk.

Zoe Maccan also makes a habit out of winning, and was the first runner back in the 5km event.

Jessie Eltringham was second, and Richard Brown third.

The walkers in the 5km distance crossed the line virtually together.

Jamie Toll was the front-runner in the 10km distance followed by Howard Reddyhough.

It was a top effort from all competitors, given the warm conditions

Next week’s event is back to Saturday afternoon at 4pm, and the location is back to the foreshore.  The start venue is the Whale Tail, and the distances on offer are two, four or six kilometres.

The club’s presentation night will be held on Saturday, November 25, with a roast meal and dessert. Members need to bring a salad to share, drinks and chairs.
