The Pink Lake Golf Club results

The Pink Lake Golf Club Sroungers event on November 2 was once again sponsored by Esperance Freightlines when players contested a stableford event for the Monthly Medal and associated meat tray.

Golf is a game that often brings violent result swings with players often experiencing in short time both extremes of form and fortune. Such was the case for the weeks winner when only days earlier Jim Smith was on the brink of despair after putting together two poor rounds in the club championships, albeit in gale force conditions. His clubs were for sale and he stated that he had played his last ever game of golf. His retirement however was only short lived and when he took to the course four days later his talent of old had returned and he took out first place with an honest score of 37 points. His clubs are once again his friends and definitely off the market. As is often the case Smith had no margin for error as he had to withstand a count back to separate himself from another 37 pointer in Les Grant who made one of his regular visits to the winners podium. Ian Riding took off the  best veteran with 35 points.

At the other end of the field there was another battle royal when Doug Sharpe and Brian Rowe each finished on 23 points. The revolving count back saw Rowe emerge victorious and can now add the Tommy Windich to his list of golfing conquests. Other novelty winners were Arthur Daly, Chas Brodie-Hall, Ray Davis, Mike Anderson, Rob Gurney, Allan Read while Snow Ducey took off the long putt with a putt that was longer than many of his tee shots. Ex member Phil Harper showed he still has it when he claimed the long drive while Chris Stokes was the only birdie ball winner.

Next week’s fixture is sponsored by Pink Lake IGA and with the King Scrounger playoff fast approaching this is one of only a few remaining opportunities to earn the right to don the crown. Hit-off will be from midday with visitors always welcome.
