Esperance Police are on the lookout for the driver of a car rollover near Dalyup early Tuesday morning, which resulted in officers finding an unclaimed puppy.
Police alleged that three shearers were heading back to a farm after a day off when their car rolled over at 4.40am, with the driver fleeing the scene before officers arrived.
The car allegedly caught fire after the incident and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services were called out to the blaze.
The passengers walked away without injuries and an ambulance was not called out to assist.
Acting senior sergeant Ben Jeffes said the two intoxicated shearers were “sheepish” and would not give up the driver’s identity.
Both passengers said they did not know who owned the puppy, around 10 weeks old, which was found at the site.
The puppy is being looked after at the Esperance Police Station until the owner comes forward.
Inquiries are ongoing and police suspect alcohol and/or fatigue were a factor in the crash.
