Local wins goal at 2017 Swimming Western Australian Junior Short Course Championships

THE 2017 Swimming Western Australian Junior Short Course Championships were held on the weekend of September 22 -24 at HBF Stadium in Perth.

More than 500 swimmers aged 12 and under took part in the championships.

Esperance’s Ben Murgatroyd won two gold medals in the boy’s 12-year-old 50 metre and 100 metre freestyle events, and was able to maintain his number one ranking in WA with some impressive times.

Ben also won a silver medal in the 50m backstroke and three bronze medals in the 50m and 100m butterfly and the 100m medley.

Ben’s times in the freestyle events mean that he qualifies to compete in the Australian Age Swimming Championships being held in Sydney next April.

Ben swims for the Esperance Sea Dragons Swim Club and is in Year 7 at Esperance Anglican Community School.
