What an absolute cracker of an evening the Songs from the Southern Edge Cd launch was on Saturday night. Thank you so much to everyone who headed along to support the event the turn out was fantastic.
On the following Sunday afternoon we had a short workshop with David Hyams to discuss where to now for the cd and artists involved. We considered a number of different avenues including ongoing live performances (perhaps outside of Esperance), dispersion of Cds through local outlets, dispersion of tracks online also the possibility for a presence at the Sunday markets and Esperance Show in the coming months.
All opportunities to come will continue the professional development of artists while also promoting the cd and therefore cd sales. Steve West has just today organized for the Cds to be available online through www.trybooking.com. Cds are also available from ECA between 10-2 on weekdays. A number of local vendors will also stock the cds, with more details to follow next week as this information is finalized. Once again thank you to everyone who made the project a reality and thank you to everyone within the community who gave their support, is greatly appreciated.
Robin Bottrell is a dynamic young artist who has recently moved to Perth and continues to follow his path of writing original tunes and pursuing live performance opportunities. I spoke to Robin last week to find out what he has been up too also the difference between gigs in Esperance and Perth. With less gigs on offer in Perth Robin decided to enter an Open Mic competition run at the Jungle Bar. The competition saw 30 artists perform. Robin came a very close second overall speaking volumes to his talent as a performer. Robin said one of the greatest differences playing in Perth opposed to Esperance was that you wont know a great deal of people in the crowd. Robin enjoyed this factor as his music has been exposed to an audience who had never seen him play, and regular positive feedback from the crowd meant they truly enjoyed his sound. Robin plans on heading into the studio in July to record some of his most recent work (his favorite so far).
He describes these tracks as being influenced by musicians including Mac Demarco, Matt Corby, and Conan Mockasin. Robin Bottrell returns to Esperance for his first performance since New Years joining a fantastic lineup including Estella and Mitch, Simon and Mary, Stacey Jane and Tom Clark.
The gig will take place at the Esperance Bay Yacht Club on Sunday July 2nd. The Bar will be open from 2pm with live Tunes from 3pm. To stay up to date with Robins tunes and happenings sling his Facebook page Roobs a like.
