Esperance shark attack: Laeticia Brouwer ‘died doing what she loved’

Teen surfer Laeticia Brouwer, who sadly died after a shark attack near Esperance, ‘died doing what she loved’ according to her family. 

The 17-year-old was surfing with her father at Kelp Beds at Wylie Bay, when the attack occurred around 4pm on Monday, April 17.

Facing the media on Tuesday morning, Steve Evans read a statement on behalf of Laeticia Brouwer's family.

“We are terribly heartbroken and saddened by this tragic accident,” Mr Evans said. 

"We can take comfort that Laeticia died doing something that she loved.

"The ocean was her and her family's passion. Surf was something that she... would do with her dad and her sisters.

"Laeticia will be greatly missed by her family, friends and everyone that knew her.

“We are thankful for the support from the police, SES, ambulance and bystanders at the scene. 

“We are also thankful for the help and support from our community at home. 

"We can take comfort that she is now in Heaven with the Lord in eternal peace."
