Backpackers escape Scaddan roll over with minor injuries

Police have labelled fatigue, after a night out at an Esperance pub, as the cause of a crash near Scaddan.

Four backpackers made a lucky escape after a Landcruiser, they were borrowing, rolled multiple times on Sunday, April 16 around 7am.

The men were travelling home after they had slept in their car overnight, when the incident occurred on the Esperance-Coolgardie Highway south of Speddingup Road.

The driver and passengers sustained minor injuries and were transported to the Kalgoorlie Hospital for treatment.

Esperance Police acting senior sergeant Ben Jeffes said wet weather and road conditions was also to blame for the incident.

He said police officers issued the driver a careless driving infringement for falling asleep at the wheel.

The men are international farm-workers in the region.

The owner of the vehicle attended scene and arranged its removal.
