Esperance Police officers have taken to the pavements this week, commencing bicycle patrols in the township.
On Thursday afternoon officers patrolled along the foreshore and the Boulevard Shopping Centre, to chat with business owners and shoppers.
Senior Sergeant Richard Moore said officers had received excellent feedback from the community about the new initiative.
“Bicycle patrols will continue in Esperance,” he said.
“They are an excellent means of policing to see things you wouldn’t normally see in a patrol vehicle and officers can access laneways and areas blocked off by bollards.
“The saying, anywhere, anytime particularly applies to bike patrols.”
On Thursday a motorist was issued an infringement for using their phone while driving.
A move on order and a caution for not wearing a bicycle helmet was also issued during the patrol.
