More than 500 hectares of farmer Sam Foulds’ family property was submerged under floodwaters, as the Jerdacuttup River poured down towards the ocean.
Mr Foulds said 70 heifers that would calve in the next two weeks were on a portion of his property he couldn’t access.
He said while there was adequate high land on the property where his cows were situated he had lost sleep over worrying about there condition.
Mr Foulds also expressed concern for the costs to fix infrastructure, mitigate salinity and maintain weed control on his property ironically called ‘Riverview’.
He said his property was on the boundary of the Jerdacuttup Lake and he believed the lake would take years to return to its former state.
He said there was no outlet for the lake system to flow out into the ocean as the sand dunes were to large to breach.
