Permanent volley ball court

21 Oct, 2009 04:00 AM
THE Esperance Volleyball Association is looking forward to a summer of beach volleyball in the coming months.

And thanks to a partnership with the Esperance Bowling Club, a new, permanent beach volleyball court has been established at the Bowling Club, allowing easy access all summer long.

Volleyball Association president Nick Wells explained the new set-up: “We’ve been wanting to play beach volleyball for a while now, and we tried it at the beach but it didn’t work. A lack of facilities and no permanent set-up made it difficult.

“We had been talking with the Bowling Club for a few years about it, and now it has happened,” Mr Wells said.

“The location is better, and it gives us access to the club rooms. We will be able to put in permanent poles making the set-up much easier, and hopefully we will be able to attract some new players.

“In the long run, we’d like to play against some other towns, like Kalgoorlie and Albany.

“Playing beach volleyball is a lot of fun. It has a good atmosphere and we’ll have some music going.”

Esperance Volleyball Association will run a beach volleyball competition on Tuesday nights starting November 3 and running through to March, with a break over the school holidays.

The competition will cater for all skill levels with a two-a-side competitive league and a four-a-side social league for beginners.

Two nomination nights and social game nights will take place on October 20 and 27 at the Beach Courts from 6.30pm.

All nominations are due by October 27.
