Grand final to Handouts

01 Jul, 2009 05:00 AM
THE Junior Squash grandfinals were played out with great sportsmanship and plenty of encouragement from spectators.

Handouts proved to be the stronger team of the afternoon, rolling Vipers’ 6 games to 2.

Each grand final player received winners and runners-up vouchers. Congratulations to all.

Next term pennants will commence on Thursday July 23 with registration. Fees will be $30 payable at registration or within the first three weeks of fixtures.

Coordinator Jane McCrea will get the challenge board posted and anyone wishing to challenge a higher graded player should contacat Jane for the correct challenge procedure. This and other enquiries to Jane should be made on 9076 1388.

Good luck to those juniors competing at the state titles in Perth during the school holidays.

Grand final June 25

Vipers d Handouts 2 – 6. L1: B Scheer d L Florisson 3-0. L2: E Clark d M Florisson 3 – 1. L3: T Warren d B Carey 3 – 2. L4: T Harland d R Campbell 3 – 1. L5: Ma Clark d T Harris 3 – 0. L6: T Florisson d T Rawlinson 3 – 2. L7: K Florisson d P Carey 3 – 0. L8: G Beisley d Al Beisley 3 – 2.

L1: It was a good game with long rallies. Liam Florisson’s down-the-wall shots were perfect. Brent had the upper hand in most rallies with better control and shot placement. Brent claimed only the second win of the grand final night for his runner-up team Vipers.

L2: Great game by both girls. Ellen won the first two games and Michael won the third. Ellen came back in the fourth to claim the match 15-12.

L3: A great game between Tim Warren and Bronwyn Carey with each taking it in turns to win a game. Some great rallies were played and there were some awesome retrievals. Well done to Tim in the end.

L4: Fantastic match between Tye Harland and Rhys Campbell. Both boys played squash with a maturity well beyond their years.

Rallies were carefully played out with a variety of shots selected. Tye’s ability to read the play and cover the court quickly gave him the advantage in many rallies.

Tye took the win 3-1. Congratulations.

L5: Maddie Clark defeated Teal Harris 3-0. Good shots by both players, Maddie playing better on the day with good drop shots. She’s been practising with her coach Byron.

L6: Tiffany Florisson started well, winning the first two games strongly with some great long shots forcing Tyler Rawlinson to hit off the back wall.

Tyler came back in the next two games though with some good drop shots taking the match to 5 games. Tiff fought and won the last game 14-15. Well done.

L7: Keah Florisson and Peter Carey had some great rallies but Keah’s serving and good watching of the ball enabled her to have a solid win over Peter’s hard hitting. Well done on a match played in good spirits with great sportsmanship shown by both players.

L8: What a spectacular match of squash between brother and sister Alex and Georgia Beisley. The last game went down to 14 all with Alex serving for the match when Georgia fought out the rallyl to the end. Well done Georgia on a hard earned win. Final points Alex 68 and Georgia 64. Georgia clinched the win 3 games to 2.
