Grand final coming up

24 Jun, 2009 05:00 AM
JUNIOR Squash grand final on Thursday June 25 will be between Vipers, led by team captain Brent Scheer, and Handouts, team captain Liam Florisson.

At the end of the rounds these two teams finished second and third respectively. Well done to them both for knocking out the tougher competition to play the final battle.

Presentations and wind-up will take place straight after the grand final has played out. All players are welcome. All junior squashies are asked to bring a plate of food to share. The oven will be on to warm anything up. Remember: squash makes you hungry.

A list will be available for players to put their names down ready for the next pennants in term three and four.

Jane McCrea junior coach and co-coordinator can be contacted on 9076 1338 with any enquiries.

Second finals, June 18. Zapps l Handouts 3-5. L1 E Florisson d L Florisson 3-0, L2 P McCrea d E Clark 3-2, L3 B Campbell l T Warren 2-3, L4 D Scheer l T Harland 1-3, L5 H Smith l Ma Clark 1-3, L6 B Blackham l T Florisson 1-3, L7 B Graham l P Carey 2-3, L8 I Hill d G Beisley 3-1.

Line two—Paul McCrea and Ellen Clark had another close encounter. Both players ran hard but let themselves down with the loose shot. McCrea’s drops hit the mark making it hard for Clark, forcing her to run hard. Clark’s great length was a highlight. The match sea-sawed with McCrea being the lucky winner in 15-14 final fifth game.

Line three—Tim Warren started slowly in the first game against Ben Campbell. Ben played good tight shots keeping Tim at the back of the court. Tim came back in the next two games mixing up his shots and serving well. Ben snatched a close game to stretch the match to five. Tim moved well and got in front to control the fifth to win the match.

Line seven—A great even contest between Brenton Graham and Peter Carey, going down to the fifth set with one point a difference in the end total. Peter Cary’s serve made him the winner, and there were some great rallies in between. A fantastic game to watch. Well done boys.
