The first of ten meetings kicked off just after 2pm and Russel Hanson picked up where he left off last season, winning the Dick Plunkett and Desi Banner Memorial Handicap aboard Fizzy Kel. The son of Keltrice scored by 3.75 lengths over Albany trained gallopers Made By Magic and Majestic Range.
The Frank Conway Memorial Handicap was run over 1000m and although she took a while to move in, the Helen Harding prepared Money Money was ultra-impressive, coming from a rearward position to defeat San Supremo and Parkside.
Race Three was the Bruce Wilson and Charlie Murray Memorial Handicap and newcomer Alabama carried the all gold club colours to victory. Both Home Front (second) and Donargy (third) finished strongly and would seem to have future wins to look forward to.
Brendan Corver and Russel Hanson teamed up again in the Neville Bennie Memorial Sprint with Esperance first starter Expedition, who proved far too smart, winning by 3.75 lengths over outsiders I’m A Goodie and Innocent Bystander respectively. The runner-up looked erratic in the straight and should benefit from the hit-out.
Race Five was the John Mathews Memorial Maiden and Keys To Windsor gave Russel Hanson his fourth winner. The Sally Roworth trained mare survived a protest and brought up her first win at her fifteenth outing. Mr Magnificent ran second ahead of the fast finishing Cut And Dried.
The Bow Bros Memorial Handicap was run over 1200m and Serene Dancer provided trainer Brendan Corver with a treble. Hobay flashed home out wide to grab second and local sprinter Big Kev finished third.
The next meeting will be held on Saturday December 13 and the first event will be run at approximately 2pm.
Horses to follow: Fizzy Kel, Parkside, Home Front, I’m A Goodie, Cut And Dried, Mr Magnificent and Hobay.
