Zivillica wins with 42

ESPERANCE Golf Club played the 36 hole Esperance Sports Power Summer Cup on the weekend, and a good field on both days enjoyed the sunny weather and a beautifully presented golf course.

Tory Zivillica set himself up for a win with a fine first round score of 42 stableford points, and despite a nervous finish, held on to beat Dave Smith by a stroke for a well deserved victory.

Scores were close for all placings, and junior Jason Clare was a further stroke behind in third place. Final scores were Zivillica 79 points, Smith 78, and Clare 77.

In the ladies division Jackie Martin was the overall winner with a good score of 73 points.

The 36 hole gross winners were Paul Fleeton with 51 points, and Di Timmins on 35. Elliott Gratton Wilson won Saturday with 41 points and Peter Robinson was Sunday’s winner on 38.

John Joad toiled hard both days to take off the NAGA prize.

Next weekend the club will be busy once more, with the Esperance Freightlines Monthly mug on Saturday sure to be a hotly contested event, as the winner gets to wear the coveted white jacket and enjoy free drinks for a month.

Play on Saturday will commence at noon with a draw to decide the field.

The club's winter season kicks off on Sunday with a mixed two person ambrose, and members will enjoy a barbecue following play.

President Ron Padgurskis will hit the first drive of the day to mark the start of yet another golf season.

New captains Doug Backhouse and Jean Bates have mapped out a great calendar of events, and members can look forward to a great year.
