Fine day for sailing

SATURDAY proved to be a fine day for sailing with a fresh breeze starting off the morning for the sail training sessions. The Pelicans were out on the bay, fine tuning their skills for racing in the afternoon.

Only one Puffin Pacer took to the water with a cosy three adults aboard. The Puffin Pacers are available for adult sail training on Saturday mornings under the tutelage of Allan Kay. If you would like to participate phone Susie, EBYC Administrator, 9071 33239 -12pm weekdays or come along Saturday morning 8.30am.

Last week’s results

The Pelicans were sailing for Heat 2 Zero White Trophy. Alex Castledine and Chet Stewart sailing Mr Percival were first. Cameron Padgurskis and JJ Wallace sailing Owtta Control were second. Alex McCallum and Leigh Hill sailing Don’t Tempt Me were third.

The National 125s were sailing for Heat 1 Fury Trophy. Felix Spencer and Campbell McWilliam sailing Mad Cow were first. Luke Elliot and Ben Jackson sailing Pretissimo were second. Courtney Archer and Lauren McWilliam sailing Chameleon were third.

The Javelins were sailing for Heat 1 Swans Veterinary Services Trophy. John Spencer and Paul Galloway sailing Rush were first. Simon Staines and Enoch Bergman sailing Unzipped were second. Laurie Thorpe and Faye Kyle sailing Spardicus were third.

The breeze for last Saturday afternoon’s racing was a little fresher with some stronger gusts of 26knots. The gusts made the day challenging, keeping skippers and crews on their toes.

The Pelicans were sailing for Heat 1 Killara Cup. Congratulations to Alex Castledine and Chet Stewart sailing Mr Percival with another win. Hilton Andrews and Cameron Saunders sailing Beez Neez were second and fastest. Alex McCallum and David Bott sailing Don’t Tempt Me were third.

A great race by the Pelican fleet, who all worked hard to manage those tough gusts.

The National 125s were sailing for Heat 1 Esperance Seafront Caravan Park Trophy. Ziggy McGill and Lauren McWilliam sailing Chameleon were first. Isidoor Speelman and Ben Jackson sailing Breaking Wind were second.

The Flying Fifteens and Cruisers D1 were sailing for Heat 1 Recherche Cup. Gordon McWilliam and crew sailing Eagle Rock (CD1) were first and fastest. Chris Wells and Sarah Ellis sailing Catch Me If You Can (FF) were second. Russell Bridge and crew sailing Anger Management (CD1) were third. Another Flying Fifteen, Two Dogs, sailed by Wim Speelman and David Hall were fourth. Congratulations on a masterful job undertaken by Russell as skipper of Anger Management, a speedy handful to manage.

There was a bit of drama out on the bay with the strong gusts and an expansive red and white spinnaker taking control of a hefty Beneteau cruiser. Then yet another Beneteau cruiser did a parcel wrap of their jib around the forestay. A challenging day.

The Recherché Cup is a hotly contested series of three races between the Cruiser D1 and the Flying Fifteens. Now with a mix of both fleets in the place getters for Heat 1 skippers and crews will be keen to prove themselves for Heat 2 on November 28.

The Cruiser DII was sailing for Heat 1 Poppy Road Trophy. Allan Kay and awesome crew sailing Hermitage were first and fastest. Peter Flood and keen crew sailing Salonica were second.

The yacht club is open on Friday nights for sumptuous meals prepared by Stuart Matthews of Saltwater Catering. Come and enjoy the twilight hours with a great view over the bay. Children are welcome.

Visitors and sailors are welcome at the yacht club. Sail coaching is at 9am with racing starting at 2pm on Saturdays.
