SCADDAN/Norseman beat Esperance Blue 7-1 in Esperance last Saturday, giving the men a chance to finish third in the home and away games and a spot in the finals.
All players showed a keen interest in their teams performance during the game, and a big improvement in concentration, which will be critical in the last two games.
The Scaddan green has recovered from disease, and will be tested at men’s scroungers on Thursday for the pennants game against Condingup at Scaddan.
If the green is still unsuitable, captain Wally Vandenberghe will arrange for the game to be played in Esperance.
Men’s Thursday scroungers at Scaddan continues to be a popular afternoon competition, and last weeks winner was Geof McClean. New player, Rod McCrea was next, and it is good to see the new players picking up prizes.
This is Rod’s first year in lawn bowls, and he is obviously enjoying the sport. There was a tie for third place after scores were level, and handicaps taken off, so Phil Wiggins and Shirley Loffler spun the wheel to see who got the treasured glass. Shirley won the prize in this unusual situation.
A small but enthusiastic group of bowlers competed for the Federation Insurance prizes on Sunday, and many thanks to Mark Watson for his support to the club.
Best on the day was the Lomax team of Glenn, Rod McCrea and Ros. Kerr. Ros. was leading for the team, and she had bowls near the jack at every end, giving her team a big advantage. Rod bowled well on occasions, and Glenn managed to convert many ends when needed.
A good team effort. Runners up were Ron Kendall, John Maddock and Daphne Longbottom.
On Sunday is the men’s pair’s championship, and players are asked to support this challenge for the Paterson perpetual shield. Names on the board by Thursday for this drawn event, so captain Ron can have the teams ready for Sunday. A good competition to get the players ready for Country Week in Perth.
See you at Scaddan soon.
