FREIGHTLINES suffered the biggest loss seen in recent years as Newtown smashed their way to a record breaking 309-run victory at the Esperance Cricket Ground on Saturday.
Batting first, a confident Newtown set about a total demolition of Freightlines with openers Clancy Wheeler and Cody Henderson hammering the attack.
Wheeler and Cody Henderson brought up centuries as Freightlines struggled to contain the runs.
The pair added a record 322-run partnership before Leon Henderson struck claiming the first wicket of the day. Wheeler, who was just one run shy of a double century, smashed 21 boundaries and 10 sixes in his 199 runs.
Cody Henderson continued the onslaught, unbeaten on 167 runs in a performance that included 8 fours and 11 sixes.
William Jolley (32-three 4s and one 6) also did well, finally falling to Brendan Weckert after a 79-run partnership with Cody Henderson.
Although Freightlines rebounded with another four wickets the damage had been done and the side was left with a near impossible 425-run chase.
For Freightlines Weckert fared best in the bowling department taking 2/25 from six overs.
In reply Freightlines struggled against the pressure as opening pair Kerry Chapman (10) and Greg Hoffrichter (13) managed 26 for the first wicket, before the side crumbled to be 5/29.
Shane Tobin (44-five 4s) and Marty French (25 four 4s and one six) added some respectability to Freightlines’ total but the innings ended on 115.
Callum McGovern claimed 3/17 while Daniel Styles and Jolley both picked two wickets.
