HUNDREDS of motorbikes rumbled through Esperance last week as Ulysses Club members travelled to a meeting in Albany this week.
Esperance accommodation was booked out as a many Ulysses members stayed in town. Caravan parks were full and the Greater Sport Ground was open for campers’ use.
Esperance Visitor Centre, sales assistant Tahnee Adamson said that there were hundreds who came in looking for accommodation.
Pink Lake Tourist Park operator Greg Cole said he expected some to come back via Esperance on their way back.
“Esperance will be inundated once again.
“I was totally booked out, it was just like Christmas.
“They were a really good group and it was great for the town economically,” he said.
NSW visitor Alan Gale, president of the Central Coast club, and Loise Jones were on the road for over a week when they stopped in Esperance.
“We have stopped in some fabulous spots like Port Lincoln, Port Augusta, Ceduna and camped in Norseman,” they said.
Rob Watson and Tony Feltus, both from South Australia, have already travelled over 2000km.
They could not wait to get to Albany.
“It’s a great week of fun where you meet all the friends who you haven’t seen for a year and only want to see once a year,” Mr Watson joked.
Meetings such as this have enabled them to see a lot of the country.
“It’s a great social activity and gives us a chance to meet like minded people,” they said.
Every year the club’s members, who are all over 40-years of age, converge on a different location around Australia.
