RESIDENTS of the Kooringa Retirement Village are angry that an elderly lady may be forced to lose her beloved dog because it is against village rules.
Eva Perks has been living in her unit with her dog Holly – her best friend and companion - for two years, but recently she was asked to get rid of the dog.
Residents at the village have proposed an amendment to the by-law concerning pets on July 8, which stated that a new resident is permitted to keep an existing owned dog on the basis of a number of conditions, which included the size of the dog, and it would have to be registered with the appropriate local council.
The amendment also states that there should be a restriction of one dog per resident, and on the death of the dog it cannot be replaced.
Ms Perks said that although she was not notified of the pet ban when she first moved in to the unit, she may be forced to get rid of her beloved pet immediately.
