Local volunteers' work recognised

01 Feb, 2012 01:00 AM
AUSTRALIA Day was the ultimate recognition of volunteers in Esperance, with the awarding of three citizenship awards.

Tom Parkins, Kyle Hodgkinson and the Esperance-Goldfields Surf-Lifesaving Club (EGSLSC) all won citizenship awards for outstanding service to the community.

Mr Parkins won the Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizenship Award (PADACA), for his work with the fire brigade community.

“It was really appreciated and a surprise, I hadn’t been told I was nominated until the shire called me,” he said.

“There were no losers on the day, they were all winners, all volunteers are.”

Kyle Hodgkinson won the PADACA for a person under the age of 25, for his work in the community.
