Keeping rock fishers safe

08 Feb, 2012 01:00 AM
MEMBERS of the South Coast Recreational Fishing Advisory Council (SCRFAC) last week completed testing of all the rock bolts around the Esperance coastline.

The rock bolts were installed last year and are secured into the rocks with 2Pack chemical grout used in the mining industry.

The bolts have been tested individually and have resisted pressure equivalent to supporting over 700 kilograms of weight, many to over 800 kilograms.

Their strength means that several fishermen can tie onto each rock bolt.

The group is pleased to have received some funding for the testing equipment and signage, and permission from the Shire of Esperance to install and maintain the signs and rock bolts.
