Kangaroos beheaded

01 Jul, 2009 05:00 AM
FIVE beheaded kangaroos have been found on Fisheries Road over the past three months.

The latest carcass was found 50km out of Esperance last Wednesday.

Distressed and disgusted Condingup resident Marie Mikari could not believe her eyes.

“It looks like someone is shooting and beheading them, this has happened way to many times now.

“You have to be pretty sadistic to do something like that - it looks like someone is doing it for the fun of it.”

Ms Mikari has lived in Condingup for the past nine years and has not seen anything like it.

“Whoever is doing this is obviously not normal.

“Attention needs to be brought to this matter,” she said.

“Animals were put here for us to take care of them,” she added.

No official comment could be made by Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) as Ms Mikari has not yet reported the incident to them.

Esperance Shire ranger Jason Rhodes said that he had a look at the latest kangaroo on Friday.

“We did have a look at the latest one but it was not beheaded, it was on the road and may have seem beheaded from that angle.

“We regularly patrol Fisheries Road and keep an eye on what is going on,’ he said.

Mr Rhodes has urged people to contact RSPCA if they had any animal cruelty concerns on 9209 9300.
