Input needed on local economy

04 Nov, 2009 04:00 AM
LIVING Communities Esperance - to be incorporated in about six weeks - needs business people’s input about the town’s growth potential.

The simple premise of Living Communities is how to best keep the money within the local economy.

Its focus is on working with the community to find where the money is leaking out of the economy and then identifying new enterprises.

Committee member, Ian Hartley, said that it’s been a challenge to get people on board due to the time of the year.

“At the moment we have about eight people comprising mostly of community members and ideally we will need about 20,” he said.

“We are trying to get more business people as it has to be driven by the community and businesses in town.

“We don’t want funding from local businesses we just want ideas,” Mr Hartley said.

Some of the ideas on the agenda include establishing a local community market to be held on Saturdays.

“If we can get a fresh fruit and vegetable market established here like in Albany, that would be fantastic,” he said.

The group can start applying for funding after they have become incorporated.
