AN Esperance man currently serving a 12 month prison sentence appeared in the Esperance Magistrate’s Court on October 27 via video link on several drug related charges.

Gary Stuart Cooper, 47, appeared on charges of attempting to supply cannabis, attempting to supply oxycontin, possession of cannabis with intent to sell or supply, possessing a smoking utensil used for smoking a prohibited drug, and cultivating a prohibited plant.

The court heard that on April 15 Mr Cooper attempted to send 9.3 grams of cannabis and two oxycontin tablets through the mail, hidden in a brochure inside an envelope.

When police discovered this, they spoke with Mr Cooper, who made admissions.

Police executed a search warrant on Mr Cooper’s residence at 9.30am, May 20, where they discovered a total of 292 grams of cannabis in various locations throughout the house.

As well as discovering 180 grams of cannabis in Mr Cooper’s pantry, they also located cannabis hidden inside the barrel of an ornamental pistol, inside a stubby-holder, and in a cup on his bedside table.

While searching the house, police also located a smoking implement and ten cuttings.

Further, police located a hydroponic set-up inside Mr Cooper’s laundry, where they discovered six cannabis plants between 50 centimetres and 1 metre tall.

Police also found a 70 centimetre high cannabis plant in Mr Cooper’s backyard.

Mr Cooper was sentenced to four months imprisonment, which would run concurrently with his current jail term.

He was also fined $100 for possession of a smoking implement.
