Fleet blessing a family day

04 Nov, 2009 04:00 AM
THE annual Blessing of the Fleet will take place at Bandy Creek on Sunday, with a host of entertainment lined up for the whole family.

Blessing of the Fleet committee president George Barnes said the event wasn’t just for fishermen.

“If you have a boat and would like it to be blessed, bring it along,” he said.

“But please obey the boating rules because the harbour will be very congested.”

Blessing the vessels this year will be the Reverend Bishop Kay Goldsworthy, the first female bishop to have the honour.

The day will begin at 10am and go through until 3pm, with the blessing at 1pm. There will also be demonstrations by the Esperance Water Ski Club, food stalls, the Apex train and a performance by Sing Australia.

Some of the proceeds raised will go towards a memorial for those lost at sea, which will be built at Bandy Creek.
