ESHS students off to university

08 Feb, 2012 01:00 AM
ESPERANCE Senior High School (ESHS) has appeared fourth on a list of schools in Western Australia whose students have been accepted into their first choice of University.

It was one of three public schools to make the list.

Last year 53 ESHS Year 12 students applied to continue their studies at university. All but one gained an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) that enabled them to have their first choice of university place.

Principal of Esperance Senior High School, Cathy Bamblett, said that she was glad to see the school doing so well on a statewide level and that the school was very proud of the students’ achievements.

“We always encourage our students to aim high but, at the same time, do not set our students up to fail,” she said.

“Our median ATAR was 87.15, which placed us thirteenth in the State and second in comparison with all other Education Department schools.

“Three of our students have gained entrance to Medicine, and others have gained places in Engineering, Science and Arts courses at university.”
