Dynamic tennis duo draw crowds

THE doubles team of high profile tennis players Alicia Molik and Casey Dellacqua have certainly been drawing the crowds for the Cliffs Esperance Tennis International this week.

While visiting Esperance, Ms Molik found time to chat with the Esperance Express about the tournament, reuniting with Casey Dellacqua, and her thoughts on Esperance.

“I’ve been loving the tournament so far. I’ve been on a bit of a winning streak,” Ms Molik said.

“It’s great to be playing with Casey again. It’s her first tournament back after injury, and we have known each other for years.”

While Ms Molik said she had been too busy competing in the tournament to really enjoy Esperance, she promised she would be back soon.

“I’ve been to a few of the beaches, but it’s hard to see everything when I’m focussing on the tournament. I’ll definitely be back here for a holiday though.

“The tennis club down here is great too. It has a great location right next to the ovals and near the Leisure Centre.”

Tennis West tournaments manager, Darren Sturgess, said he was very pleased with how the tournament was shaping up.

“It’s going awesome. Everything is going together well. We’ve had great support from Cliffs and the Esperance Shire.”

Mr Sturgess said the tournament was also getting the community involved, with free tennis workshops, the Skywest Adopt-a-player sweepstakes and more.

“We have had around 700 students down here already, and we have been holding free tennis activities every afternoon.”

And while the entire event has been free to the community, Mr Sturgess said for those looking for a more authentic tennis experience, corporate tickets were available for the finals.

Corporate tickets can be purchased from the tennis club.
