LOCALS in Esperance have become used to the sight of 60 foot sail boat Oelin anchored in the bay over the past months but the vessel is now preparing to move on and is looking for crew.
Warwick Hill and Tara-Jae Cream live onboard the Indo Prahu boat which they built in West Kalimantan, Borneo and need between one and four crew to join them for the journey across the Great Australian Bight.
Mr Hill said they intend to leave mid-March and the journey is expected to take between one and three weeks.
“We expect it may be difficult to find people who are flexible enough with their time that they can come with us, but we are keen to meet sailors who are interested and hopefully we can share the experience,” he said.
Mr Hill said that he is looking forward to the trip and the different perspective those onboard will gain from seeing the land from the sea.
He also said that the weather will have an impact on the time the trip takes.
“Being at the mercy of the weather is one of the downsides to sailing,” he said.
“We will probably travel equally motoring and sailing, but also take plenty of time to make the most of the journey.”
