NOT content with just being a farmer’s wife and a mother, two Condingup women have launched their own business, calling it ‘Biccies’.
Four months ago, Mandy Chapman and Gill Inkster began their delicatessen business after hearing an inspirational speech by Lake Grace resident Pam Lannin at a South East Premium Wheat Growers Association meeting.
At the meeting Mrs Lannin, who created her own delicatessen business Sophisticake, said all things are achievable.
“We’re passionate about our food and we enjoy trying new recipes so we thought this would be a great thing to focus on,” Mrs Chapman said.
Mrs Inkster said she could relate to Mrs Lannin being a farmer’s wife and her need for more stimulating activities other than child and household duties.
“We can certainly see how some people can feel quite isolated because it can be very lonely being stuck at home with the kids all day,” she said.
Mrs Chapman, who has two sons aged two and one, and Mrs Inkster who has three girls aged seven, five and three, said they are lucky to have the children around while they work but it can sometimes be quite challenging.
At the moment they supply their assorted biscuits and cakes to Coffee Cat who, Mrs Chapman said, have been really supportive, but they’ve had a couple of other people approach them.
“We started out wanting to do something from home and now the business has grown so quickly we’ve had friends approach us asking if we could bake for parties,” she said.
Mrs Inkster said they are committed to only using WA ingredients.
“It’s nice to know where our produce goes to because often our produce leaves the farm and we don’t know what happens to it,” she said.
